Football For Fun U12-U14s
Youth Football becomes pressured from U12s with the introduction of league tables and more serious, competitive games. At Bishopthorpe White Rose FC we have seen that not all players at this age group (and older) are ready for this level of intensity and just want to continue with playing football for fun. We are therefore starting an U12 - U14 group purely designed for such players. The key elements of our sessions with this group will be:
Engaging training sessions with focus on fun
Working on developing basic skills
Friendly matches against teams of a similar standard
Everyone gets to play in matches with equal playing time
Training and matches will be on Saturdays 8.30am-9.30am at the 3G pitch at York College. Term time only, starting 10 September
All players welcome, including those who want to return to football. Please contact Josh Wong at joshyfwong@gmail.com or 07979 537582 and just come along and try a session.

Although the season has been a disrupted one it has been a thoroughly enjoyable one for Bishopthorpe Under 7’s. This was our first season playing competitive matches and from initially fielding two sides in September we were able to extend this to three teams in January. This has enabled more players to enjoy regular football with enjoyment being the most important factor for everyone involved. This has been helped by success on the pitch with the teams winning the majority of matches played.
The 2021/22 season will look slightly different as we move into the U8s league as although we will again be fielding three teams in competitive matches, we will also be fielding a new ‘yellow’ team that will be playing in regular friendly matches with teams across York.
We currently have a squad of 36 players and have a waiting list in operation for any boys wanting to join. We are however accepting new female players to encourage girl numbers within our ranks in the hope of being able to field a girl’s team in the near future.

This season’s U8s have had a great year, despite the challenges we have all faced. We are lucky to have a large group of 34 players, and as such we have fielded 3 teams in the Mitchell League; Purples, Blacks and Oranges. Additionally we have had a Yellow Team playing in friendly matches and our Girls have also been playing (all-girls) friendly matches.
Each of our teams has done really well this year, registering far more Wins than Losses, and most importantly the development and enjoyment of our players has been clear to see. Over the Summer we will be taking part in the Flamingo Land and Bridlington Beach Soccer tournaments.
Next Season, we will be fielding:
2 mixed gender sides, the Spartans and the Vikings (7-a-side) in the Mitchell League
A Girls U9 team, the Lionesses in the U10 Girls Mitchell League.
We will also have a team playing friendlies; The Titans.
More Girls please!! We would love more girls to join us to train and play with our Girls Team. Please spread the word and get in touch if you know players that would like to join us.

Bishopthorpe White Rose under 9’s girls started training in the summer of 2020 before the Covid pandemic interrupted things momentarily. Training has been very productive with girls really enjoying themselves whilst developing in their footballing ability. There was no under 9’s league competition in the York district in our first season so the focus has been on developing two competitive 7 a side teams for the 2021/2022 football season when we will be under 10’s. The team have enjoyed a number of friendly matches and we are all looking forward to next season.

This season in more challenging conditions the Under 9’s mixed teams have had another very strong and positive season making parents and coaches exceptionally proud. As we moved up from 5 a-side to 7 a-side this season was always going to be somewhat transitional. From Under 6’s through to Under 8’s we always ran three teams including boys and girls. From Under 9 and due to the increased team numbers (5 players to 7 players) we did not have the numbers to continue with three teams and our girls went off to form the Girls Under 9s team. Therefore we consolidated into two mixed teams, both squads had a very positive run up until Christmas, dealing with the various stop / starts due to the pandemic exceptionally well. As the lockdown extended our teams showed great team spirit and togetherness via our Team what’s ap group were we took it in turns to set various fun and testing challenges. When the season re-started the fixtures came thick and fast and we played 6 weekends in a row, which for this age group is intense to say the least. Nevertheless using the full squad we navigated our way through with some amazing football where the kids really showcased what we have been coaching in the training sessions.
This summer we will be testing ourselves in some round robbens across Selby and Hull. We will also be entering the RI Tournament in June.
Next season we will continue with two teams but we will also have one eye on the following season when we make the big jump up to 9 a-side. To this end we will be looking for lots of friendlies in-between the league matches to ensure as many kids as possible are getting valuable match time.

This was the first competitive year for the Girls U10 squad, and we were able to field two 7-a-side teams into the CYGFL league, travelling as far as Northallerton and Heslerton, but also playing teams closer to home in York. It has been fabulous to see both the girls in our teams, and our opponent's players develop as the season progressed.
The two rounds of fixtures both culminated in BWRFC Purples v BWRFC Blacks, 2 amazing occasions with much enthusiasm, energy and cheering from supporters, players and coaches alike! Both games were well fought, showing off the team's new found skills, and thankfully ended in one win each!
Next season we will be playing in the U11’s CYGFL league where this season's opponents will be joined by an additional 4 teams, so more fixtures and more football to look forward to in 2021 -2022.

As the U11s , we have A,B,DEV mixed and within this group we have some real characters.
A lot of these players have been with us from age of 5 but we have also players who have joined just 1 to 2 months ago and have slotted in so well not just as players or training but kids having fun and smiles with great attitudes .
Roll on next season for some great games , some wins, and a lot of enjoyment for all of the kids

The under 12 Season finished with the Blacks gaining promotion from Div 3 as Div2 runners up based on Points Per Game despite being Champions on Goals scored, Goal Difference and also points gained playing an expansive attacking style of football (115 goals in 15 games)
Unfortunately a deciding fixture was postponed 3 times by the League and then the County FA denying them the opportunity to redress the balance.
The Purples finished mid-table after the loss of critical players through injury, illness and other commitments.
After 6 years of competing as equal mixed teams and being the last team with this format for the last season and a half; we are now streaming the teams in order to regain a place in the First Division as we go up to 11-a-side for the 2021/22 season.
We are now actively seeking new players to add to our under 13's Squads (Year 8 ) for the 2021-2022 season.
As we move into our newly built, £1.8m home, White Rose Park, our squads are actively seeking talented individuals who can bring skill and experience to improve our existing, successful group of players.
As a club, we offer a friendly, inclusive environment with high quality coaching to ensure the players and teams reach their full potential.
If you believe you have the right attributes or know of someone who has and would like the opportunity to undertake trials with a view to becoming part of the team contact

Bishopthorpe White Rose U12 Girls entered two teams into the CYGFL U12 League for the 2020-2021 season; the Jaguars and the Pumas. The enthusiasm and commitment from all the girls in both teams has been tremendous. Players, coaches, parents and volunteers have contributed to a successful season.
Following an intense sequence of fixtures to make up for postponed matches, the Jaguars managed to finish the season as U12 League Champions. A magnificent performance.
The Pumas had an impressive season with some notable victories. Well done Pumas.
We look forward to the new season and the new BWR football pitches as we go into the U13 division of CYGFL. All the different age level BWR teams will flourish in our new Home as we all have the opportunity to support each other on match days. We can’t wait.

The u14s have made huge improvements in the past year, despite the challenging circumstances. We've trained and played matches most Wednesdays and Sundays whenever lockdown rules have allowed, and it's been great to see our numbers steadily increasing. We regularly have over 20 players at training, which is as many as we've ever had. We're hoping to keep training regularly over the summer months, along with playing some friendlies.
Last season started slowly with some difficult games in September, but the team improved hugely putting together a long unbeaten run in the middle part of the season. All the games have been played competitively, but always in good spirit with respect to the officials and opponents.
We're looking forward to moving to longer games (and size 5 footballs!) in the coming season, and hope that we'll continue with the settled squad that we've had in recent months.
A huge thank-you from the coaching team to all our players and parents : you're a great group to work with!
